I cover my anxiety with paint and hang it on the wall. There is a reason we feel emotions and it’s not to pretend they don’t exist. The world that goes on inside us all day long is a world that needs to be examined. Acceptance of our inner selves is growth. Through growth we heal. When we heal we can finally help those around us heal. For me painting is healing. It’s the most honest way to bring my inside out. I treat painting as a form of communication. It communicates with me in the present. It talks to me through feelings. I listen to these feelings by accepting them. When I paint in the moment I accept everything. I accept every drop of spilled paint and every unintentional mark. When I am finished with a painting I feel a new release and understanding of why that feeling existed in the first place. This process cultivates compassion to one’s self. And once we find compassion in the mirror it becomes easier to find it another being.
